Wolf-Man I

A little comic fun, from a Halloween story I wrote with Siena... just sketches right now. See it on Tumblr.

Christmas Cards VI: The snow ride

The last of my christmas cards... not my favorite, but here it is. You can also see it on Tumblr.

HoHoDooDa 2013 Day 10

I'm starting late with the HoHoDooDa 2013 challenge, which is to do a holiday related sketch every day for the month of December (see here or other participants), though my previous posts this month have been mostly Christmas card related. Here is a quick sketch playing with the headless snowman idea I used for a card earlier.

Christmas Cards V: Stopping by a Tree on a Snowy Evening

My next mini christmas card, pencil and watercolor, 3.75" x 5.5". I'm really not happy with this one, but I'll post anyway.

Christmas Cards IV: The Wooden Toy

My next mini christmas card, pencil and watercolor, 3.75" x 5.5". I've started using slightly bigger (and better quality) watercolor paper for my cards. I've broken down early regarding my "not using Santa" rule ...

Christmas Cards III: The Snowman

My next mini christmas card, pencil and watercolor, 3" x 4.5". I'm trying to keep these simple, I just sit down and draw a simple sketch in one shot (no erasing allowed!), and apply watercolor straight away. I'm still a novice with watercolor, so these cards are a form of practice for me. Unfortunately my scanner doesn't pick up a lot of the subtler details.

Christmas Cards II: IF Refrain

My second christmas card for this year is playing double duty as my post for Illustration Friday: Refrain. Pencil and watercolor, 3" x 4.5". This little girl should refrain from a late night sneak-peak at the presents...

Christmas Cards I

I'm doing very small christmas cards this year, pencil and watercolor, 3" x 4.5". If I can help it I'll avoid images of Santa and/or reindeer, but I can't guarantee that I won't run out of ideas before the end! Here is the first.

Crazy In Progress

I'm desperately trying to get my submission for the third Chainsaw Comics Anthology: Crazy finished. They've extended the deadline until December 1st, so I've got a little time. I'm doing an autobiographical account of my exploits climbing bridges with my friend after visiting the local bars in my home town. We did this often, and was the definition of crazy! Here are a few sketches from the work-in-progress. Hopefully I get it done in time!

Illustration Friday: Tail

As always, limited time has lead me to post a simple sketch for Illustration Friday: Tail. Pencil on printer paper.

Illustration Friday: Energy

A quick sketch colored in Inkscape for Illustration Friday's theme of "Energy"... if I had more time this would be watercolor.

Pumpkin Hunting

Here is Melissa trying to get a pumpkin up to the house to make a replacement pie for her mother (see earlier posts).

Stupid things I've said

I was not a very good student in high school, mostly because I was much more interested in art. When I finally decided to go to college, I had a lot of catching up to do in terms of vocabulary (and general book learning). This situation lead me to say a lot of stupid things, trying to sound cool and academic. Here is one such case...there are many more! In this case, it was during a conversation with my friend Bram while taking a walk in Orono, Maine.

Sorry Mommy

A quick sketch showing the aftermath of Melissa's pie toss. This is part of a larger story that I was toying with, and may get to eventually.

Illustration Friday: Zoom

I still haven't gotten a new scanner yet, but I've availed myself of Iowa City's wonderful public library to scan a few peaces in. Here is my entry for this week's Illustration Friday, with the theme of Zoom. It stars Melissa, a reoccurring character in a lot of my sketches and comics, and is the same Melissa from Melissa & Owl.

P.S., this is my first time using a brush pen.

Anthology Updates

I've received the decisions regarding both of my anthology submissions. The Eilean Mor story for Hic & Hoc publications was not accepted. This was not surprising once I found out that at least one experienced cartoonist had chosen the same story...oh well, it was my first time and I learned a lot!

The Joy anthology submission, however, was accepted! I'll post an update once the book is out.

I've got a lot of new drawings and short comics that I'll post as soon as I get a scanner!

Joy Anthology Submission

Here is my two-page submission to Chainsaw Comics' anthology on "Joy". This is the original color version, but it will be published in grayscale.

Illustration Friday

I've submitted a drawing to Illustration Friday's "Book" theme this week. You can see it at my children's book blog.
